Dimmitt Land Rover host Red Cross Challenge
Published on December 19th, 2008
Competitors gathered at a local outdoor retailer in aid of the Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund, organized by the Trek team of Dimmitt Land Rover. The competitors had no idea what the day would bring, but they knew it was all in a good cause. The teams were given Tee Shirts and Roadbooks, complete with Tulip diagrams. They were given a safety briefing and a departure time.
Pete Sweetser, Manager of Dimmitt Land Rover had modeled the event after later Camel Trophy events and the hugely popular Macmillan Challenge in the UK. Teams were sent by roadbook from Discovery location to Discovery location. At each point there were tasks to perform which accrued points. The fun being deciphering the cryptic clues and working out the discovery location using time, speed, distance and odometer trip miles. This proved especially vexing for the lifted vehicles since the roadbook was compiled using a calibrated terratrip and bore no relation to the varience of big tires!
At a county conservation park, teams were provided a CD of Music only to find that at a later location they had to answer questions related to the songs they had heard. Locations included Parks, Tourist sites and a Parachute centre. Of course, this being a Land Rover event two separate timed off road Discovery locations were included, each driven blind using only a scetch map.
The last location was the awesome museum the Fantasy of Flight run by Kermit Weeks where a final dinner was waiting and the prizes were awarded. Over $500 was raised and even after 9 hours of challenges and fun teams requested a rematch.
The second Red Cross Challenge is in the planning - this time over two days with some night driving. If you are interested in competing call Pete at Dimmitt and expect to see much of natural Florida in the process. All proceeds of course continue to be in aid of the Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund.

Land Rover Mission Viejo Gets Wet!
Published on August 29th, 2008
In an effort to raise local awareness on safety and emergency preparedness, while providing support to the Red Cross, Land Rover Mission Viejo hosted a car-wash fundraiser and a much needed blood drive. The car wash took place August 2nd and the blood drive was held August 5th.
Both events proved to be fun and educational, and provided donors the opportunity to contribute to an integral part of the Red Cross Mission - to raise funds for the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, and to donate blood at the local level. Land Rover Mission Viejo’s G4 TReK team not only hosted the event, but also played a “hands-on” role by washing and drying the cars.
With the support of our customers and fellow employees, the car wash and blood drive were a tremendous success. We look forward to a continuing relationship with the American Red Cross.
